Laura De Lima Xavier, M.D.
Laura comes from Porto Alegre, the state capital of Rio Grande do Sul, in the far south of Brazil. There, she attended medical school at Pontfícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul and worked as a student researcher at the Brain Institute of Rio Grande do Sul, studying neuroimaging of learning disorders with a focus on dyslexia under Dr. Augusto Buschweitz. She received a scholarship through a federal program, Science Without Borders, and spent one year at the University of East London, where she joined a research group studying robot-assisted neurorehabilitation under the supervision of Dr. Duncan Turner. After obtaining her medical degree, she joined the Simonyan lab as a postdoctoral fellow. Laura is currently investigating environmental risk factors and their functional neural correlates in spasmodic dysphonia and voice tremor.
